Our Apostolic burden for all believers is to be awakened to their identities in Christ. The Apostle Paul himself said that he travailed that Christ might be formed in the lives of all professing believers in the early church.

Now that we have been made righteous and have become new creations in Christ, we wear a new identity. That identity we now have is that of Jesus Christ.

You may have been labelled things before because of your mistakes, failures or sin, but know this today: if you have put your faith in Christ and His finished work, that label put upon you is gone and you now have a new identity in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us, For God made the only one who did not know sin to become sin for us, so that we who did not know righteousness might become the righteousness of God through our union with him. When you were once determined and defined by your mistakes, God now gives you a new future imputed with the righteousness of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.

That means that you are no longer your old self. The old has passed away and the new has come, as 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us; “Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new creation. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new”. We now live in a completely new identity founded on Christ's finished work on the cross.

This new identity we have in Christ is fundamental and crucial to living a new life. If we live a life thinking that we are still our old selves, we will remain forever chained to our limitations, our inability and our brokenness. But when we live in this new identity founded on Jesus, we walk in His ability, His love, His grace and His victory He purchased for us.

Just as Paul says in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” We are founded in a new identity, which has brought upon us new destiny and new ability. We now walk with Christ's identity and no longer ours.
